Tornado Quest is the result of a lifelong passion for the earth sciences – meteorology, climatology, and environmental science – and a commitment to evidence‑based information that connects weather, climate, and human health.
My Journey
- Early spark: Severe storms in my childhood sparked a fascination with the sky. By age 13 I was photographing clouds and documenting storm damage.
- First tools: I started with limited resources: The Weather Channel, NOAA radio, and early online forecasts. Learning quickly how to make the most of scarce data was imperative.
- Modern era: Today’s mobile tech provides more data than many National Weather Service offices had in the early ’90s, but the excitement of forecasting remains unchanged.
What I’ve Seen
I’ve witnessed both stunning natural beauty and devastating destruction – from supercells twice the height of Mount Everest to violent tornadoes and communities reduced to rubble. Those experiences have shaped my perspective: nature’s power is awe‑inspiring, yet indifferent, and understanding it can save lives.
Looking Forward
