Greetings everyone and thanks for stopping by. I hope this week’s post finds everyone doing well. The uptick in severe weather activity across the USA has not let up in March with several severe weather events for the month and a deadly episode in Mississippi on 27 March and in Arkansas on 31 March. I’ll continue with severe weather preparedness infographics along with the latest US Drought Monitor. This week, we also have an interesting read on the high probability that, for the USA, tornadoes may becoming more intense in regions that already see a high level of tornado activity.

- If you’ve thought something was amiss on Twitter with hyperbole and certain accounts being given favoritism, you haven’t been imagining things. If you want a blue check mark, shell out the money.
- This is a very informative video on the link between extreme heat waves in Europe and Arctic sea ice melt.
- The southeastern USA has always had a higher percentage of tornado fatalities. With population density increasing, this trend may worsen for a variety of reasons.
- Are we facing a future of more intense thunderstorms and the tornadoes they produce? The possibility is certainly high. Here’s a very good, concise read on that topic. There’s also a link to a very detailed American Meteorological Society research study that addresses the threat in more detail.
- Here is this week’s update on the USA Drought Monitor. Conditions east of the Mississippi river have seen dramatic improvement. Extreme or exceptional drought conditions exist for much of the central and southern plains states. Substantial improvements have shown up this week in the west but, for California in particular, at the cost of devastating floods.

SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS AND SAFETY
- As the past few days have shown, spring’s severe weather season is getting off to an active start for 2023. With knowledge being power, here’s some great information to help keep you safe. This is an essential read on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and related hazards in an excellent 20 page PDF file from the National Weather Service…”Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, and Lightning. Nature’s Most Violent Storms.” Next, we’ll take a look look at Tornado Sheltering Guidelines. Following these guidelines could save the lives of your loved ones and you. By some accounts, the rest of 2023 could have a very active severe weather and tornado season. Regardless of what transpires, being prepared is imperative.

This important infographic focuses on winter weather and social media. However, it also applies to ANY weather conditions that occur years round regardless of where you live. Remember that your NOAA weather radio, local NWS Office, and the broadcast meteorologists of your choice are always the best choices for all types of weather…from clement to life threatening situations.

That’s a wrap for this post! Thanks to everyone for stopping by. A big ‘Thank You’ to all of you who pay this website a visit and follow Tornado Quest in social media!
