Greeting everyone. It’s good to see you. The big news, at least for the northern hemisphere, are the ongoing wildfires Canada and the devastation left behind fires in Hawaii. It’s time to take a look at hurricane safety and take it seriously. The Atlantic hurricane basin has become very active in the past few days. We’ll also take a look at the latest update of the US Drought Monitor.
- In spite of a great deal of wishful thinking, there is no “climate haven” in the USA.
- Here’s a fascinating and detailed read from NOAA on a landmark study concerning the weakening of ocean carbon sink.
- This is an essential read from NASA that details compounding climate risks that will affect us all with two degrees of warming.
- From the NOAA 2022 archive; “Can we expect Atlantic hurricanes to change over the coming century due to global warming?”
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Across much of the plains states and northwest, severe to exceptional drought conditions continue to spread. Parts of TX, KS, and NE are some of the hardest hit areas as of this week.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
- NOAA has an excellent and comprehensive website on hurricane preparedness. Check it out!
- Here are two infographics that you’ll find helpful in preparing for a hurricane or tropical storm. The emergency kit checklist is a good starting point. The next infographic covers social media and avoiding spreading misinformation.

This important infographic focuses on TROPCIAL STORMS/HURRICANES and social media. However, it also applies to ANY weather conditions that occur years round regardless of where you live. Remember that your NOAA weather radio, local NWS Office, and the broadcast meteorologists of your choice are always the best choices for all types of weather…from clement to life threatening situations. With Twitter (NOW OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS “X”) in disarray and automated posts now a thing of the past, warnings from your local National Weather Service office won’t be in your timeline. Now more than ever, you need a good quality NOAA weather radio.

That’s a wrap for this post! Thanks to everyone for stopping by. A big ‘Thank You’ to all of you who pay this website a visit and follow Tornado Quest in social media!
