Greeting everyone. Thanks for stopping by. The tropical Atlantic is still busy. Since there are several more weeks left in the 2023 hurricane season. I will continue with hurricane preparedness information that you’ll find helpful. We’ll also take a look at the latest update of the US Drought Monitor along with several other interesting reads. But first, this important caveat on weather information and social media.
This important infographic focuses on TROPICAL STORMS/HURRICANES and social media. However, it also applies to ANY weather conditions that occur years round regardless of where you live. Remember that your NOAA weather radio, local NWS Office, and the broadcast meteorologists of your choice are always the best choices for all types of weather…from clement to life threatening situations. With Twitter (aka “X”) in disarray and automated posts now a thing of the past, warnings from your local National Weather Service office won’t be in your timeline. Now more than ever, you need a good quality NOAA weather radio.

- Let’s start with some very cool astronomy news. NASA has brought back to Earth a sample of an asteroid.
- This should come as no surprise. “Musk’s X is the largest source of disinformation, EU official says.”
- None of us will be around to see if this comes to fruition, but here’s a look at what our planets continents might look like in 250 million years.
- On it’s fourth try, the Mars Curiosity Rover finally reached this special place on the planet Mars.
- As climate change affects the Arctic, so does it detrimentally affect the region’s lakes and their effectiveness in being carbon sinks.
- We hear about the meteorological beginning of autumn and also the autumnal equinox. What’s the difference?
- Sobering news from the World Meteorological Organization. Antarctica sea ice has set a record.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Across many of the plains states, NM to MS, and the northwest, extreme to exceptional drought conditions persist this week.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNES
- NOAA has an excellent and comprehensive website on hurricane preparedness. Check it out! There’s a great deal of very important information for you.
- Here are two infographics that you’ll find helpful in preparing for a hurricane or tropical storm. The emergency kit checklist is a good starting point.

Now let’s take a quick look at various hurricane hazards.
