Greetings everyone and thanks so much for stopping by. This has been an extraordinary year to date for tornado activity and this past week was no exception. This week, let’s continue with our overview of tornado safety. With the Atlantic hurricane season now officially upon us, I’ve got a review of this years hurricane outlook and a link on hurricane safety. As usual, we have the latest US Drought Monitor update along with other good science reads, so let’s get started.

- Harassment and threats, including violence, are nothing new to many of us including yours truly. In recent times, those threats have increased in frequency, vitriol and rage, and are fueled by the current political landscape in spite of solid scientific evidence.
- Alaskan rivers and streams are turning a strange color. This has even surprised many scientists.
- What’s behind the recent occurrences of air turbulence that has affected many commercial airliners?
- In case you missed it, NOAA has released their outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. To say that it’s going to be active is a vast understatement.

- We’ll get more into specifics for hurricane preparedness in a later post, but with the official beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season now upon us, here’s a good primer to get you started.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Substantial improvement has taken place across much of the contiguous USA. Drought conditions continue for parts of Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, and Texas. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.

TORNADO SAFETY
Let’s review very important and potentially life saving tornado safety guidelines. Here’s an excellent 20 page PDF document from the National Weather Service: “Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Lightning…Nature’s Most Violent Storms.” NOAA has a very comprehensive page on what to do during a tornado warning. Here’s another detailed look at tornado safety you should read carefully. There are many misconceptions regarding taking shelter from a tornado. The following infographics should clear up any confusion.

That’s a wrap for this post! Please check out our social media accounts! Thanks to everyone for stopping by.
