Greetings everybody! Thanks so much for stopping by. The severe weather pattern has continued to show typical patterns this month with the majority of activity in the central and northern plains states and southern Canada. Of course, the Atlantic hurricane season is here as well. We’ll continue our overview of severe weather and tornado safety, hurricane preparedness, and summer heat safety. I’ve also go the latest US Drought Monitor update plus several interesting science reads, so let’s get started.

- A very entertaining listen: If the Earth was the center of our solar system, what exactly would happen?
- Gaslighting…a favorite tactic of the fossil fuel industry…and the gas industry is no exception.
- Many areas of North America along with other locations around the globe are dealing with unprecedented summer heat. This kind of heat is potential lethal. Here’s a very important read on how heat affects the human body…and can kill you.
- We learn at an early age about our planet’s water cycle and how important it is for many uses from drinking water to agriculture uses. One factor that is often overlooked is how fast does groundwater recharge.

- Regardless of the season, wildfires are a significant threat in many regions of North America. But are there more wildfires now than in the past?
- With the official beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season having arrived, here’s a good primer to get you started on preparedness. It’s never too early to prepare for the storm you hope never happens. Here’s another comprehensive site that covers a myriad of topics that will be of interest to anyone living in an area prone to hurricanes and tropical cyclones.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Substantial improvement has taken place across much of the contiguous USA. Drought conditions have worsened for parts of Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and spread through the Mid Atlantic region and northern Rockies. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.

TORNADO SAFETY
Let’s continue to review very important and potentially life saving tornado safety guidelines. Here’s an excellent 20 page PDF document from the National Weather Service: “Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Lightning…Nature’s Most Violent Storms.” NOAA has a very comprehensive page on what to do during a tornado warning. Here’s another detailed look at tornado safety you should read carefully. There are many misconceptions regarding taking shelter from a tornado. The following infographics should clear up any confusion.

That’s a wrap for this week! Thanks for stopping by!
See you next Saturday!
