Greetings to all. I’m glad you stopped by. As of this post, Rafael is stirring the waters in the Gulf of Mexico and is proof positive that even a hurricane can quickly reach major status in November. There’s always a chance for another one, so I’ve plenty of hurricane preparedness information for you. Along with this week’s US Drought Monitor update there are several good reads, so let’s get started.

- A complex topic is science and the law. When science changes, which is inevitable, it’s only right that the law changes as well.
- Taking into consideration recent political events, those of us who have legitimate and fact based concerns on climate change have quite a long battle ahead.
- In an age of anti science rhetoric and nefarious conspiracy theories, misinformation can spread as fast as an out-of-control virus.
- In the past few days, more wildfires have been burning out of control in southern California.
- During heat waves, electric fans can help most of us get some relief, but there’s a demographic that, for a variety of reasons, is still in danger of heat illnesses.
- Commercial and freight aircraft aren’t the problem. The problem of increased emissions due to aircraft is a result of the wealthy traveling in their own way.
- It won’t be long before 2024 wraps up. It also is becoming more than obvious according to data that 2024 will be a record setting year around the globe for record warmth.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Drought conditions have improved only slightly this week in small areas of the contiguous USA. Of note are extreme to exceptional drought conditions that have spread from the northern Rockies, the southern plains into the Ohio/West Virginia region. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.

- Here’s another comprehensive site that covers a myriad of topics that will be of interest to anyone living in an area prone to hurricanes and tropical cyclones.
- This is another good preparedness link that covers hurricanes, health concerns, and other natural disaster emergencies.

That’s a wrap for this week! Thanks for stopping by! See you next Saturday!
