Greetings to all. I’m glad you stopped by. The start of the meteorological winter in the northern hemisphere is upon us. This week, I will start sharing winter weather safety information. The official end of the Atlantic hurricane season has also arrived. Along with this week’s US Drought Monitor update there are some good reads, so let’s get started.
- I’ve been described as an empath by many who are in the social sciences. I take it as a compliment. Furthermore, I’m in total agreement that choosing empathy is essential to the survival of democracy.
- The new year will see a new presidential administration in the USA. It’s almost a certainty that we’ll see much back sliding in areas that are essential to our future survival.
- New ideas in scientific advancement can seem daunting and even scary, but what’s more intimidating and dangerous is snuffing out those bold endeavors.
- Droughts can be a disastrous event in any region, but in the USA, eastern droughts differ from ones in the west.
- The official end of the Atlantic hurricane season is November 30. Here’s a comprehensive look back at a very busy, destructive, and deadly year.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Drought conditions have changed very little this week across most of the contiguous USA. There’s some improvement, but many areas are still in extreme to exceptional drought conditions. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.
