Greetings to all! I’m glad you stopped by. This week, we’ll continue with winter weather safety information, the latest US Drought Monitor update, and several very interesting science reads. Let’s get started.
- Much has been written about the Hubble telescope over the years. Here’s an interesting read on a chapter of the Hubble’s history that few know about.
- The tales that can be told by ice over a million years old is mind boggling.
- The Storm Prediction Center sometimes uses the term “Particularly Dangerous Situation” for a severe weather watch. Now, due to the dangers, that terminology is being used for California wildfires.
- If you or anyone you know could possibly come in contact with the smoke from the California wildfires, this is an important read on the health hazards of breathing the smoke.
- This is an interesting read on how fires, like the ongoing ones in California, spread so quickly in urban areas and what can be done to slow their spread.
- Many have heard of the winds that make the ongoing California wildfires so devastating, but what causes those winds and why are they important?
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Significant improvement has taken place across the southern plains and Ohio valley, but some very dry areas, including the Los Angeles metro, are still in severe to exceptional drought conditions. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.
