Greetings to all and thanks for stopping by. Tornado Quest is now on Telegram. Scan the QR code above or check out the link below and follow along with some personal perspectives and the occasional thought provoking meme on a channel that will be selfie and food free. As for this week in science, it’s been another interesting and challenging week of many topics. Winter weather safety information will continue and I’ve got the latest US Drought Monitor update. Let’s get started.
- Let’s start off with a read that has no connection with weather or climate whatsoever. For those of us who are male, this read will come as no surprise. Human behavior is indeed very quixotic.
- Speaking of human behavior, how is consumer spending related to air pollution?
- Is it any wonder that this gathering of scientists was described as, “gathering in turmoil?”
- In a hypothetical scenario, imagine a once-in-a-lifetime epic rainfall event occurring in California. That would still not be enough to offset the current drought and more conditions.
- If vast amounts of rainfall can’t help with firestorms like the ones that devastated parts of California, then a more efficient and better water system could be the key.
- In just the past quarter century, glaciers around the world have experienced drastic changes that can’t be undone.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Drought conditions have largely held steady for the central and northern plains and the southeastern states of the contiguous USA. From southern Texas to southern California, extreme to exceptional drought conditions have worsened in the past week. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.

WINTER WEATHER SAFETY
Here’s more important winter weather safety information.
Here’s another good winter weather safety resource available in a 12 page PDF file.

That’s a wrap for this week! Thanks for stopping by! See you next Saturday!
