Greetings to all and thanks for stopping by. The arrival of March brings the beginning of meteorological spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn south of the equator. Starting this week, I will begin our severe weather safety information with this week’s focus on tornado safety. We’ve got several reads of interest along with our weekly US Drought Monitor update and a 2025 tornado outlook. On that note, let’s get started with this week’s links.

- A case where process is as important as content. The methods in which concerns for climate change are conveyed to the general public are as crucial as the message.
- Have you ever heard of aerobiology? This is a fascinating read on an area of scientific study and how it demonstrates that the air we breathe, from indoor environments to the great outdoors, is teaming with life.
- While on the topic of air that we breathe, this is an informative read for anyone who is into running and has concerns about how air quality can affect your exercise regime.
- Ancient glaciers can hold many secrets. Here’s a good read on some of those secrets and what they tell us about the history of our planet.
- Check out this very interesting new study and how computer simulations are revealing important information on the Atlantic ocean.
- Across much of the USA, a recent cold snap was swiftly followed by balmy temperatures for February. Here’s a good read on why this wild temperature swing took place.
- Convective Chronicles has issued their tornado outlook for 2025. This is not only informative, but has access to links and further information for your own research. This is a very informative, objective, and hype-free look at what might transpire in the coming months.
- Sadly, this was inevitable. NOAA and the National Weather Service are now the target of the most incompetent and nefarious presidential administration in our lifetimes. “NOAA officials would not reveal how many people were fired Thursday or are being let go, citing privacy. Current and past NOAA leaders and employees have given various estimates on job cuts, ranging from 580 to 1,200.” And the 2025 severe weather and tornado season is just starting!
- More on this developing news of mass firings at NOAA can be read here.
- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Drought conditions have largely held steady for the central and northern plains and the southeastern states of the contiguous USA. From southern Texas to southern California, extreme to exceptional drought conditions have continued to worsen during the past week. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.
