Greetings to all! I’m glad you stopped by and hope the weather is to your liking wherever you live around the globe. This week. I’m introducing the new Tornado Quest social media account on Telegram. Scan the QR code above or check out the link below and follow along with some personal perspectives and the occasional thought provoking meme on a channel that will be selfie and food free. As for this week in science, it’s been another interesting and challenging week of many topics. Winter weather safety information will continue and I’ve got the latest US Drought Monitor update. Let’s get started.
- The choice to make climate-friendly lifestyle choices is often dependent on which country an individual lives in and that country’s socioeconomic status.
- The fashion and apparel industry is quick to jump on trends, but are they prepared to make changes in short order to benefit sustainability?
- Human behavior make the lives, and proliferation, of rats possible. Add climate change to the mix, and we have a rat population that is going sky high.
- Plastic in the form of microplastics and nanoplastics are everywhere. That includes parts of the human body that you would never expect to find them.
- In time, the California wildfires that have devastated thousands of structures and killed many will stop. As the cleanup begins, there are many who have very valid concerns over the public health ramifications of such a cleanup which will contain many hazardous materials.
- Here are some very interesting listens on how people adapt, or not, in the wake of natural disasters.
- Many of you are familiar or have heard of Project 2025 in the USA. This article from July 2024 highlights the dangers of this “project” to NOAA and the National Weather Service. Would you like a tornado or hurricane warning that could save your life? Then I guess you’d better pay for it. The USA has been on the leading edge globally for weather data and forecasts for many, many decades. Under this regime, your National Weather Service office, the Storm Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center, and others would be decimated in every way possible.
- The latest climate data shows that January 2025 was a very warm month around the globe and also had the lowest amount of Arctic sea ice.

- Here’s the latest update on the US Drought Monitor. Significant improvement has taken place across the southern plains and Ohio valley, but some very dry areas, including the Los Angeles metro, are still in severe to exceptional drought conditions. The latest fire weather outlooks can be found at the Storm Prediction Center website where they are updated daily.
